So there we were, two amatuers and a semi-professional singer, entering a studio with no prior knowledge of the song on which we were about to do vocal back-ups. All we knew was that they guy who sang the song is by no means a professional or even close to it but has one a couple competitions over the past few years and has the fire and passion that some of us who can actually sing, tremendously lack.
We went in there not knowing as much as what the chorus was! Thankfully the sound engineer and the musical director for the song, were geniuses.. not to mention the song was fairly easy to work with. We did the melody in two octaves, and the harmonies in three different parts.. It was awesome!!! It made me want to sing again!
Ken (the lead singer) went in and did his part to give us a guide to work with and then we went into the booth.. The feeling of being behind a one-way glass, enclosed in a 7ft by 5ft room with nothing but microphones and what looked like a small mixer and a speaker... loads of eggshell crates on the walls and ceiling.. was one of the most wonderful feelings in the world. It made me feel like I was a part of something greater... as if there is now a small piece of musical history that I was a part of. It felt really good!
Its Tuesday morning and the memory of feelings experienced last night is so much in my spirit that I cant seem to stop talking about it!!
Have a great Tuesday people... the week is good so far, lets see how much better it can get!
